Tweco Mig Gun
How to change the welding consumables
This is the tweco mig gun no.2 model "how to" instructions for replacing and changing the
welding consumable in the torch. I will be showing you how to replace the contact tips, nozzle,
tip holder, and the torch liner.
The particular mig welding gun that is being
demonstrated
here is a genuine TWECO number 2
torch.
Step 1: Disconnect gun from mig welder

You are going to need to disconnect the mig welding gun from the mig welder first.
You will have to remove the two power cables that are plugged into the back of the torch mounting body. They are
connected using electrical "spade bits". Simply pull the two wire off.
Step 2: Take the shorud / nozzle off

This torch has been fitted with a screw on nozzle.
So to take it off you unscrew it.

Note: Some other TWECO torches come with a "push on" nozzle that is pushed on or pulled
off.

Inside this shroud is some insulating material and a thread for screwing it on.
Step 3: Contact tip or tube removal

This sized mig gun is fitted with the TWECO "11 series" size of contact tips. They have a thread at the base and
need to be unscrewed to get them out.
For this you will need to use pliers, multi grips, or anything else that can "cut the mustard".

Step 4: The tip holder is next

Once the tip is out, the next part to remove is the tip holder.
To do this you will need to remove a little grub screw first.
It is found on the side of the tip holder.

The grub screw will need to be made loose with an "allen key (Aust.)" or "hex wrench (USA)".
The set screw is pressing down and locked onto the liner. You can not remove the tip holder unless the
grub screw is loosened.

Now you can undo the tip holder using a spanner, wrench, shifter or pliers.

Here you can see how the tip holder came off and where the liner goes.
Step 5: Removing the liner

To get the liner out you will again need an allen key to undo a small grub screw in the bayonet
fitting.

Layout the cable on the floor nice and straight and pull out the liner.
I had to use the mulit grips to get the liner out as it was a bit tight to do by hand.

Here is the removed liner
