Welding curtains and welding screens
Welding curtains and welding screens are used
in workshops where there are other people who can get flashed from direct welding arcs. The curtains are also used
around cnc plasma cutting machines to block the bright light coming from the plasma arc. Generally speaking youwill
find welding curtains setup on metal frames thats support the screens.
These assembleys are then positioned around the welding bay on
all four sides. They are available in differnt sizes and colours. For example two of the most comon colours are red
and green screens.
For us here in Australia our welding screens need to
conform to Australian standards AS3957 and also most screens are fire retardent to AS1441:13. These ratings are
obviously there to make sure that you are getting protected from the welding arcs and that the thing won't
catch on fire too easily. Welding safety is a must.
Also some will be UV stabilised so they will have a
good long working life.
Common sizes of
welding curtains
A very common size of screen is 1.8meters high. Then the widths vary
accordingly. For example you can get them in widths of 1.3m, 2.0m, 2.7m, 3.4m, 4.1m, 4.8m, or 5.5m. But
depending on brand other sizes may be available.
Premium welding
screens
You can aslso get premium re-inforced welding screens that are of a much
stronger design. Like most things the better quality items always cost more money. But let me explain it to you
this way. You can buy a tarp to cover your box trailer for really cheap or you can get a much better tarp that
costs more. If you are into camping or carrying loads that need covering you know doubt know the difference in
quality of standard tarps.
The same goes for welding screens here to. The premium gold ones are
reinforced and are much more durable.
Welding curtain
prices
So how much do they cost?
First up they are priced on their size and the quality of material. Some screens
come with a pre welded frame. You can also buy extra rings to hang the curtains from.
What about a welding
blanket?
A welding blanket is a fire proof blanket that
can with stand high temperatures and sparks, flames etc.
They are often used when you have to keep a welded part hot. You would do this to
slow down the rate of cooling so that you could prevent cracking due to hydrogen.
Here
is a welding blanket and a good review of it too.
